Editorial Policy

Every article in the Neptune Journal is written and reviewed by the Neptune Photo team — the people who work the counter, run the film lab, and handle gear at our shop at 731 Franklin Ave, Garden City, NY 11530. We've been a family-run camera store since 1963, and the guides reflect what we actually see, sell, and process every day.

Topics come from the questions customers ask us in the store: which film to buy, how to check a used camera, what ISO means, how development works. If enough people ask about it across the counter, it becomes a guide.

We focus on the areas we know firsthand — film photography, camera gear, and the lab services we offer in-house. We don’t publish content on topics outside our expertise just to rank in search results.

Technical claims (film speeds, camera specifications, process details) are checked against manufacturer documentation and our own lab experience before publishing. We don’t invent test results or firsthand experiences we haven’t had.

We’re a camera store, so many guides mention products we sell and services we offer. When they do, the recommendation comes first and the store link second — we’d rather you buy the right film than more film. Where a competitor’s product or an item we don’t stock is the better answer, we say so.

Cover photos that aren’t our own are used under Creative Commons or equivalent free licenses, with the photographer credited at the end of the article.

Articles are reviewed by a second team member before they go live. We revisit published guides as products are discontinued, prices shift, or our lab services change, and each article shows its last-updated date.
